Northern Ceramic Society Seminars

 

Members of the Northern Ceramic Society normally have an opportunity each year to attend one or more weekend seminars, and also a summer school. Advance particulars of all seminars, together with the relevant booking forms, are sent to all NCS members. 2008 NCS SUMMER SCHOOL at the University of Chester

August 12th - 17th

 

Theme: 'TECHNIQUES AND TRADITIONS'

The course will cover the various techniques and processes used in the production of earthenware, stoneware and porcelain, and also particular potting traditions. Techniques to be studied in detail include those associated with Chinese porcelain; cream coloured earthenware; slipware; tin-glazed earthenware including lustred; English bone china; and studio pottery. Visits will be made to the unique Burleigh Pottery, where various traditional techniques are still in daily use, and to another Staffs venue to be announced. Additional attractions:- demonstration and explanation of bat printing; members’ papers; poster boards for ceramic queries; and discussion of members’ pots.

SPEAKERS will include: David Barker, Barbara Blenkinship, Alan Caiger-Smith, Robert Copeland, Robin Emmerson, Geoffrey Godden, Pat Halfpenny, Maurice Hillis, Paul Holdway, Rose Kerr, Kathy Niblett.
